Are You Looking After Yourself? Self Nurturing Mothers’ Day

Are You Looking After Yourself?

MC Breathe 07.5.2014 Are You Looking After YourselfSelf NurturingMothers' Day 1

Hi there,

Many of the clients I see in clinic give a lot in all parts of their lives and forget to support and nurture themselves.

Others would also like a better relationship with their mother and the women in their lives.

It is important to remember it’s impossible for anyone, including mothers, to give all and Be All to another person, fulfilling ALL their wants and needs. We are all human.

The best way to heal this complex relationship is to heal your relationship with yourself by mothering and nurturing yourself the way you want/ed to be mothered and nurtured.

And remember, where you are in life is only by choice. Your choice. Make it positive and in support of you.

Exercise:

Write a list of all the things you thought your mother “should have” done for you, and one by one start to do them for yourself, eg. Wanted to be listened to, cuddled and feel safe? Create a beautiful space in your lounge or bedroom, make yourself a cuppa and write down what you would like to tell your mother, then imagine what you would like to hear. Give yourself a hug. A BIG hug. Now you have started the process….

Next…write a list of all the amazing women in your life that have their own way of nurturing you and list the way they add this Light to your Life. For instance…

Kim, BFF from High School, reminds me to have fun, be silly sometimes & ‘keep my ducks in a row’

Jodie’s BIGGEST smile reminds me that I am awesome when I am Being my Authentic Self

Geraldine shows me to BE my Highest Truest Self, with compassion, grace and fun!

Margot’s warmth & Presence shows me that Spirit can move through the Physical with ease

Christina’s lightfilled eyes and sweet mischief reminds me to listen to my heart

You get the gist….now do it for your Life.

Nest Step:
What  quality or Value connects these people?
For example…
“Their LAUGH, their open hearts and Spirit and their drive to make a difference in the world.”

Summary:
If, as they say, that the people around us are reflections of ourselves, what does this say about You?

Optional Extra…

You could share with each of Your People what you have written how they add to your life in a card, note or in person with a very BIG Thankyou!

Happy Self Nurturing!

Be True to Your Heart,
Deb xx

A Letter from Rachel

I received this letter from Rachel about a week ago and thought it perfect to share with you, with Rachel’s permission, in time for Mothers’ Day. In celebration of all of you in Deb’s Community who seek a Higher life for themselves, their children and family. Enjoy!

“I arrived in Coogee in the spring time leaving my life in Canberra behind. I felt that I had been resurrected from the dead. From the gloomy suburban post winter cold, we found ourselves immersed, with dancing feet, in the seaside’s smiling gentleness.

6 months later I was visibly lighter in spirit. For the first time since maternity leave I was enjoying freedom from work, having the pleasure of a 3pm pick up of my daughter at school, and getting my kids to bed on time after preparing a good nourishing meal for us all, followed by homemade chocolate and apple pie.

Beyond these benefits, my move had achieved its real aim, but only to a certain degree. My son’s asthma in Canberra was life threatening. Every month he was ill with a chest cold accompanied by severe asthma and he had been hospitalised with pneumonia twice in his three years of life. I thought that perhaps the sea air and the warmer temperatures would do him good.

I was right to a degree. He was completely healthy for a good 3 months, and began to blossom like a flower in the sunshine. I was overjoyed. However, one night he awoke with a lot of trouble breathing. The ambulance took him to hospital and I was devastated, thinking that I was back to square one again. I frantically began to search for a kinesiologist. I felt that if I could unburden his body by giving him the kinesiology tested foods, it would help him. I did not feel that the asthma drugs (preventer and Ventolin) were fullproof, as children lose their lives to asthma attacks. Incidentally I also wanted help for my daughter who was experiencing regular hysterical outbursts.

As fortune would have it I found Deborah Beers’ webpage and she happened to live just around the corner from me in Coogee.

While at this point I was almost entirely focused on my children’s health rather than my own, it became clear that I was also in need of assistance. Ironically, I soon found that my self-care had a very healing effect upon my children. One of the first things Deb told me was to just stop and ‘b-r-e-a-t-h!’ The most basic thing that one needs to be doing right in life, I had only just discovered that I was in need of help. I had repressed my breathing into shallow and limited breaths from childhood. Deb taught me how to head hold and breath. I began to do this exercise multiple times a day. This was the single most important and life giving thing for me that I had ever learnt, for it brought me calmness and a sense of stability. What a relief! I could breathe!

Deb helped my son and daughter with the emotional issues which are responsible for their respective problems. My daughter’s behaviour became vastly improved after only a few sessions and her loud frustration is now seen less and less, replaced by happiness, calmness and creativity. Indeed, her school teaches have commented on her dramatic academic improvement over recent months. While we think that my son’s asthma problems are predominately emotional, Deb referred my son to her colleague, Geralaldine Gallagher, who deals more with biochemistry (or nutrition). Geraldine suggested taking my son of gluten, most grains and most dairy. In the last months it has been like a full time job finding recipes for him (that are nutritionally sound and that he does not turn his nose up to). I suffered many bitter failures in my cooking time and time again, but gradually I have met with more success. To my wondrous joy his asthma has at last markedly improved, and his dependence on asthma drugs drastically decreased. My daughter, with the help of Deb and Geraldine is suffering far less allergy symptoms here including eczema.

I soon began to attend Deb’s meditation classes alongside adding my own in-clinic sessions. This opened up a new world for me of relaxation, energy cleansing, and getting to know my inner self. One of the greatest miracles was my relationship with my children. At times I would be possessed by such a great anger due to bad behaviour that I could do nothing but deal with the situation from a place of anger. I used to feel so guilty afterward for my failure to deal with them in a really loving way.

Within a few months of clinic, meditation classes and deep breathing, things changed. It was the weirdest sensation. I felt like I was watching myself on a TV screen. I felt in control and did not erupt in anger. I communicated with my children when they were upset and misbehaving in a caring and patient way and felt good about the result, and they did too.  Very soon, the ‘Naughty Corner’ became the ‘Calm Corner’ and when sent to that corner, I was doing deep breathing with them. I was soon blessed with reduced domestic traumas and a calmer household.

Bed time became a pleasure rather than a tiresome dread due to Deb’s suggestions. The naughtiness and loud singing was gone. The kids were too busy focusing on giving themselves a hug for the things they had done that they were proud of that day, a gold light meditation and a round of head  holding/deep breathing. Along with falling asleep easily, they began for the first time in their lives to sleep through the night. A massive relief for me after more than 6 years of sleep deprivation, and I hope to follow suit soon.

I have been a fan of kinesiology for some years now. Releasing the negative patterns and beliefs we have developed over the years is like release from a kind of false servitude. It is an amazing journey to see your life slowly change for the better. It’s exciting to discover alternatives for your life that you never thought possible. I thank Deb for playing such a massive part in our family’s physical and spiritual health and development. “
