Create the Play of Your Life

 5 Minute Story

LIVE EVERYTHING THAT IS WITHIN YOU

“One of the sad things today is that so many people are frightened by the wonder of their own presence. They are dying to tie themselves into a system, a role, or to an image, or to a predetermined identity that other people have actually settled on for them. This identity may be totally at variance with the wild energies that are rising inside in their souls.

Many of us get very afraid and we eventually compromise. We settle for something that is safe, rather than engaging the danger and the wildness that is in our own hearts. We should never forget that death is waiting for us. A man in Connemara said one time to a friend of mine, ‘Beidh muid sínte siar,’ a duirt sé, ‘cúig mhilliúin blain déag faoin chré’ – We’ll be lying down in the earth for about fifteen million years, and we have a short exposure. I feel that when you recognise that death is on its way, it is a great liberation, because it means that you can in some way feel the call to live everything that is within you. One of the greatest sins is the unlived life, not to allow yourself to become chief executive of the project you call your life, to have a reverence always for the immensity that is inside of you. Nietzsche saw with devastating clarity the collusion that society actually is. He stripped back the layers of lies, pretension and gamesmanship, and he got down to the wild flow of energy in the well of the soul. It is impossible as a humanoid to stop the well of energy and the well of light and the well of life that is inside you. You might calm it and quell it, but it will still rise up within you.

~~ John O’Donohue from “Walking on the Pastures of Wonder”

Create the Play of Your Life

Do you remember the last time you felt really stressed?

When you felt “out of control”, “crazy”, “OTT” , that the Stress had your life hostage and you’d ” lost control of your life.”

Stress can create ‘the world is against me’ feelings, that outside forces have railroaded or derailed life… whether it be the Boss, the economy, “the Ex-“, the Partner, the Family, the neighbours, the weather. Sound familiar?

Stress causes us to forget that it is actually a test of who we truly are.

Who we are is not only about who we are in our Best-and-Kodak/ Facebook moments, like when you help a friend, win an award, are patient with the kids/ parents, outperform at work or volunteer at a hospital.

Who we are is also about when Life tests or challenges us. When the traffic keeps you late and someone cuts in, when you are at the checkout and discover you have left your wallet at home, when you drop and smash your phone by accident or your computer hard drive crashes.

There are bigger life challenges…loss of a loved one, floods, having to move house, breakup of a relationship, losing your job, the threat or diagnosis of a life threatening disease. Or find yourself working or on holiday in a war zone.

Whether you react (act out) or respond ( a centred space) is up to you.

It is driven by the role you have given yourself when You define Your Character as you write, direct and produce the play of your life in your head. All driven by the way you think, affecting the way you feel and creating the health/ illhealth/ no energy/ vibrancy for your life.

You create the character you are in the play: the work you do, where you live, the type of food you like, the clothes you wear, the music you listen to and the people you hang with.

“This life, which had been the tomb of his virtue and of his honour, is but a walking shadow; a poor player, that struts and frets his hour upon the stage, and then is heard no more: it is a tale told by an idiot, full of sound and fury, signifying nothing.” William Shakespeare

So BE Your own Shakespeare! Whether you create Your character as cool and sophisticated, loving and fun, intense and moody will determine how you react or respond to these unplanned, unscripted awful moments in Life.

It will determine the times you choose to be irritable, melancholy, “a walking shadow”, “a poor player” or belligerent. It determines whether you accept this as a passing mood that you can choose to change or decide instead there is someone to blame.

And it can determine the times you choose to enjoy life, turn the disasters around to become the Hero of your play, Be Your best self and know that You are Enough to meet any challenge you write into your script.

Because… You are the Creator of Your Own Play…You write the story, direct and produce the play. It is Your Story on the stage of Life.

Are you unhappy with the character you have created? The one looking back at you from the mirror awkward, betrayed, ashamed and uncertain? Worried you have written a play for your life that sounds like ” a tale told by an idiot, full of sound and fury, signifying nothing”?

It’s important to remember You always have the Choice to change the script, develop the character: what you do, what’s important to you and HOW you react or respond to Life.

Moment to moment you make those choices, creating the life you can look back on at 60 or 70 or 80 or 90 years of age.

Decide NOW….do you want to look back with regret or fond memories and fulfilment?

You can start by asking these questions:

Is my life well lived?
Am I loved? Do I love well ?
Am I doing all I came to do?
Am I proud of the character I have created?
Can I look myself squarely in the mirror , comfortably and directly into my eyes…and see my best friend?
Am I at ease and proud of the person looking back?

Need some help with this? Call me for an appointment to make the process easier or come along to Living Life Passionately and spend 2 days of You-Time and become the hero of your play, the Hero of Your Life.

In the meantime ask yourself:

Who DO I want to Be? eg. brave, strong, smart, compassionate, sincere…
Am I BEing that person?
How do this in My Life daily?
Do I have the values, strength of character and qualities that sit well with Me?
Am I Who I want to Be…my True ME?

Then ask Yourself this One Question to get you on track:

“What’s the Next Step?”

Then go DO it.

When the brain speaks with a loving, assured voice it is your spirit, your heart speaking. When you do what it tells you to do with love and Knowing, it tells your heart and spirit that you do listen, value and trust yourself. Each time you do this it builds Your self-confidence and self-worth .
So it will then supply the next step, then the next and then next. One step at a time.

Why no more than a step at a time?

Imagine 5 years ago being told or shown a video clip of what you are doing today, how you are living your life…what would you have done? Would you have believed it?

You need to grow into the Life you live. One step at a time you have evolved, grown, developed and created new understandings, skills and tools that are better ways of doing life. Your life now.

You Create the Play of Your Life.

Make it a Life you are proud of.

Be kind. And True to you,
Deb
