Feeling Anxious? Financial Stress?
Thought for the Week
“Today I will factor in uncertainty as an essential ingredient of my experience. In my willingness to accept uncertainty, solutions will spontaneously emerge out of the problem, out of the confusion, disorder and chaos. The more uncertain things seem to be, the more secure I will feel, because uncertainty is my path to freedom. Through the wisdom of uncertainty I will find my security.
I will step into the field of all possibilities and anticipate the excitement that can occur when I remain open to an infinity of choices. When I step into the field of possibilities, I will experience all the fun, adventure, magic and mystery of Life.”
– Dr. Deepak Chopra from his book The 7 Spiritual Laws for Success
Quick Tips for the Anxious
It may surprise some of you to learn that up until my late 20’s I experienced anxiety on a regular basis. It stopped me thinking clearly, asking for directions, speaking to someone new. It would come upon me quickly, overwhelm me and block my ability to express myself. It stopped me really living life – the life I am living now. The life I love.
So, I looked for solutions. I discovered that with Change can come excitement or anxiety or both. They are very closely related and often confused. When we have difficulty being excited about our life we begin to think we are anxious.
This is often made worse when our closest friends and family (who have forgotten what being excited about life feels like) confirm our fears and agree it’s anxiety we are feeling.
As always, You have a number of choices:
1. You could start by telling yourself you are excited rather than anxious. If the anxiety goes away and you feel more energised and start to look at your life with clarity… that’s exactly what it was: Excitement about the changes you are creating in your Life – actually living the life you always wanted.
If by conducting this ‘test’ you feel lower in energy and badly about yourself and life, it could be anxiety you are experiencing. If so,
2. Use the headholding and breathing technique you learnt in your session, class or workshop. Many clients who have previously been hospitalised with anxiety found headhold and breathing prevent the anxiety escalating and the need for hospitalisation, then with time and practice they find calm, clarity and joy by headholding and breathing.
How to Headhold and Breathe:
Place one hand across the bump on the back of your head and the other hand across your forehead.
For 9 reps, breathe in for 4, hold for 2 and out for 4, hold for 2.
I know doctors, psychiatrists and psychologists who now recommend this technique to their patients because of the results it’s created in our mutual clients. If this quietens your anxiety, excellent. If you are willing to find out the deeper cause of the anxiety and begin to release it, give me a call or email.
3. If you are still feeling anxious after using the above techniques and/ or have been told by a doctor or other health care professional that you experience anxiety but would like that to change, call me for a chat or an appointment.
Life has so much to offer, so many opportunities to grow and embrace daily as a part of life… it’s time to release the anxiety and Live the Life You are Meant to.

It’s Time To Pay Attention
“A recession could be sparked by our states of mind”
This was the title of an article in the Sydney Morning Herald in 2008. In a speech to the Committee for Economic Development of Australia in Melbourne this week Glenn Stevens, Australia’s Reserve Bank Governor, commented his greatest concern was that Australians are talking themselves into a recession.
The article elaborated that “we can either shrug off the ‘gloomy talk’ and go about our daily business or we can let the overwhelming tide of bad news drag us under.’
So what’s changed? The media periodically tell us we are close to a recession, that ” the housing bubble will burst”, that prices are rising, then dropping. The only constant is the media reporting bad news because bad news sells.
What we do know is that What We Focus on Grows.
If you have a bad night’s sleep, get up late, miss breakie and get caught in traffic, you could have a tendency to think the rest of the day is going down the gurgler.
Of course, when we have a great night’s sleep, have a healthy breakfast at a pleasant pace and get into work easily we expect the rest of the day to be pretty good.
Because what we focus on grows. It snowballs. The really clever part is to apply what you expect on a “good” day to change the process on a “bad” day so you turn the day around. And that’s precisely what a number of clients have been learning to do in their Personal Consultations lately.
If we continue to react to the nightly news (which by a bizarre twist of human nature is by predominantly bad or else no one would watch it ?!?) by focusing on the bad – we begin to believe it’s true.
“ The only thing we have to fear is fear itself”, Franklin D. Roosevelt’s during the Great Depression.
NOW is the time to learn from history and apply what we know as possible from your experiences in Personal Consultations, classes and workshops with Deb to change the way YOU react and start RESPONDING to Life.
With all the bad news the media has been churning out it can be difficult to see life differently. What the current economic activities have been showing us is where we need to pay attention.
When we do inattention as a habit we begin to pay in other ways.
If we don’t pay attention to our lives and our money we can make bad choices.
Suze Orman is on old friend of mine. She really doesn’t know me, although we did meet last year briefly. She became a friend when I made a bad choice around money 17 years ago and her work, with the kinesiology I was doing regularly, helped me turn it around.
I first saw Suze on Oprah, heard some good sense and then bought her book The Courage to Be Rich: Creating a Life of Material and Spiritual Abundance. It taught me to pay attention to money, to create a new way of thinking about the mistake I made, and helped me to change the way I “did” money.
Years later I came across another of her books I have been recommending ever since Women and Money (Australian Edition). Other resources you may find helpful are:
The Richest Man in Babylon by George Samuel Clason
Think and Grow Rich by Napoleon Hill
I Can Make You Rich by Paul McKenna
Rich Woman by Kim Kyosaki
Years later, explaining the GFC, this is what Suze had to say:
“We have built an entire economy on lies and deceit…The more money the brokerage firms, the mortgage companies and all those companies made, the better the economy was.
Because if they lent you money, you had money now that you could spend,” she says.
“When the economy looks great, everybody feels like, ‘Oh, we’re doing good.’ The stock market goes up. When the stock market goes up, the price of shares go up…”
As things progressed, Suze says many people fell under Wall Street’s spell. “A lot of you have built your personal financial foundation on deceit and lies. You bought a home that you couldn’t afford. … You spent money like it was going out of style and it wasn’t your money to spend, because why? They were borrowing it,” Suze says.
So what can you do to protect yourself? “People, stop living the financial lies that you have been living,” Suze says. “If you don’t have the money to pay for something, can you just not buy it? Can you wait? ….
Though no one knows which direction the market will swing from one day to the next, Suze is sure of one thing—honesty is the answer.
“If everybody is still trying to rob Peter to pay Paul and wants to continue to live a life of deceit and lies, this will get worse before it gets better, and it will continue.”
From this moment forward, Suze says every cent penny you spend should be a cent you can afford.
“If you can live an individually honest life, change can happen from the bottom up,” she says.
Time to pay attention:
What is “an individually honest life” for you?
What do you need to do to get there?
What changes do you need to make? When?
Where to Pay Attention
1. What You Focus on Grows
What do you want? Financial independence? Financial freedom? An individually honest life? What does this mean to you?
Once you decide what you want financially you will find that when you begin to focus, think and act upon your new focus you begin to attract answers, information, resources and people who can help you get there in a way that is best for you.
The key is to be clear on your new financial focus. It’s when we are unclear we attract poor quality information, people and resources. Clarity keeps your internal GPS focused on where you are going.
2. Releasing the Financial Stress to find Calm and Clarity
Head-hold and breathe and imagine putting all the stress around your money/ finances in a box and blow it up. Destroy the stress. Repeat anytime you stress about money. Then ask yourself:
What is financial independence, financial freedom, an individually honest life to me?
What does it look like? e.g. on your bank statement; in your lifestyle…
What sense will it bring you? A Sense is different to feelings. A sense is a “knowing” from deep within you… is it Peace? Assuredness? Clarity? Calm? Direction?
Is there a place inside your body that you sense that quality sits? In your stomach, your heart, your head? Hold that part of your body and breathe in that sense and let it fill you.
3. Get Rid of the “NOT”
When you focus on feeling broke, or not having enough, or your fear of losing it all or what the neighbours/ family/ friends will think – guess what?
It’s more than likely you will attract exactly what you focus on, because we know what you focus on grows.
When we focus on “I don’t want poverty/ debt/ struggle”, the brain never hears the “not” and continues to bring in the poverty/ debt/ struggle.
When you focus on what you do want your brain moves towards it easily and effortlessly because it’s no longer spending energy getting away from what you don’t want.
This works with debt too. The more you focus on debt, of getting rid of the debt or not having debt, guess what? Debt grows. Change the way you think of debt. How?
It’s important that you are focused on moving toward what you do want, rather than away from what you don’t want.
Make sure your talk is towards-focus rather than away-from focus…Your Brain is listening and ready to do exactly what you tell it.
4. What Unfulfilled Needs are Your Spending Habits Feeding?
Buying is an emotional process. That’s why there is so much money spent on advertising – to get you emotionally connected to THE Car, THE Holiday, THE EMOTIONAL EXPERIENCE of a LIFETIME!
We rarely say “Yeah, I just saw it hanging there so I thought I’d get it”. More often we say “I LOVED IT! I just HAD to HAVE IT!”
When we look and listen carefully we can find that we use money to fill what we feel is missing in our life. So now is the time to pay attention to what the lifestyle you are paying for is feeding you.
We have the Choice – to stress and worry ourselves with fear into further debt or we take the opportunity to pay attention to our finances and create the life we are meant to live.
What do you Choose?
Is it time you paid attention to your financial situation? Are you having trouble with the stress it’s creating? Knowing where to start? Do you want “an individually honest life” but not sure how? Or is self care difficult for you? They are all good reasons to call Deborah and make an appointment. Call 0408 600 410.
Remember to be kind, and True to you,
Deb
